Password ZIP

Make an AES-256 password-protected ZIP that opens anywhere, or unlock one you have the password for.

Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.

How Password ZIP works

Everything happens in your browser with the Web Crypto API and plain JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, so the files and passwords never leave this device. Archives are written with zip.js using WinZip AES-256, which 7-Zip, WinRAR, macOS Archive Utility (via Keka or The Unarchiver) and most phone file apps can open. ZipCrypto is offered for old apps.

Input: Any file, ZIP. Output: ZIP.

How to use Password ZIP

  1. Drop files.
  2. Type the password twice.
  3. Pick AES-256 or ZipCrypto and the compression level.
  4. Press Create password ZIP and download it.

Tips

  • File names inside a ZIP are not hidden. Use the locked HTML tool if names are sensitive.

Password ZIP FAQ

Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
