Subtitle Cleaner

Remove [sound] tags, speaker names and music lines, then fix overlaps, short lines and long lines.

Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.

How Subtitle Cleaner works

Each line is cleaned with simple rules you can switch on and off: tags in brackets, NAME: labels, music notes and repeated lines go, then times are fixed so lines do not overlap and stay on screen long enough. You see before and after side by side.

Input: SRT, VTT, ASS, SBV, SUB, LRC. Output: SRT, VTT, ASS.

How to use Subtitle Cleaner

  1. Drop a subtitle file.
  2. Switch the clean up rules on or off.
  3. Check the before and after lists.
  4. Download the clean file.

Subtitle Cleaner FAQ

Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
