Retro Animation Converter

Convert FLI/FLC, Amiga ANIM and IFF, Deluxe Paint ANM, CDXL, MNG and Smush animations to GIF, APNG, WebP or MP4.

Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.

How Retro Animation Converter works

Retro formats are decoded with the FLIC, IFF, ANM and CDXL decoders inside ffmpeg.wasm; MNG uses ImageMagick compiled to WebAssembly (about 15 MB on first use). Video work runs in ffmpeg.wasm, the FFmpeg toolkit compiled to WebAssembly (GPL build, loaded as a separate engine file of about 30 MB the first time, then cached).

Input: FLI, FLC, ANIM, IFF, ANM, CDXL, MNG. Output: GIF, APNG, WEBP, MP4.

How to use Retro Animation Converter

  1. Drop one or more images onto Retro Animation Converter.
  2. Tune the options. The before/after preview updates live.
  3. Process the batch.
  4. Download a single image, or everything as a ZIP.

Tips

  • Most image tools accept many files at once.
  • WebP and AVIF give much smaller files than JPG at the same visual quality.
  • Set a default image quality in Settings. Tools that do not choose their own quality use it.

Retro Animation Converter FAQ

What about BPG and FLIF?
Those need decoders that are not available for the browser yet.
Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
