Not yet. The browser video engine has no AV1 encoder, and animated JPEG XL needs a larger encoder. WebP gives similar savings and works everywhere.

How Animated Image Converter works

Animations are decoded into full frames in your browser (GIF with gifuct-js, APNG with UPNG.js, WebP frames with the browser decoder), edited, then written back out. GIF is encoded with gifenc plus our own frame optimiser; WebP, MP4 and WebM go through ffmpeg.wasm. Video clips are read with ffmpeg.wasm at the frame rate and size you pick. Animated AVIF is read with the browser's own decoder, which Chrome and Edge include.

Tips

WebP keeps transparency and is much smaller than GIF.
