Font Subsetter
Keep only the characters you need from a font and save a tiny WOFF2, WOFF or TTF with matching unicode-range CSS.
Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.
How Font Subsetter works
You choose characters by pasting text, picking common ranges (Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Devanagari and more) or typing unicode ranges. fonteditor-core drops every other glyph and writes a new font, and the matching @font-face rule with unicode-range is generated.
Input: TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2. Output: WOFF2, WOFF, TTF, CSS.
How to use Font Subsetter
- Drop a font.
- Paste the text you use and tick the ranges you need.
- Pick WOFF2 and press Create subset.
- Download the font and copy the CSS.
Tips
- A subset for a logo or headline can be under 5 KB.
- Keep hinting off for web use; it adds size and modern screens rarely need it.
Font Subsetter FAQ
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in this browser tab on your own device. Engines are downloaded once and cached, but your files never leave your computer.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
- Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
- Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
