Chat with PDF
Ask questions about a PDF or document and get answers with page numbers, fully offline.
Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.
How Chat with PDF works
The document is split into passages and indexed with MiniLM embeddings (about 25 MB). For each question the closest passages are given to a small instruction model, which answers with page citations. A small instruction model (Qwen2.5 Instruct, Apache-2.0) runs fully in your browser with Transformers.js, on WebGPU when available and on the CPU otherwise. The model downloads once and is cached.
Input: PDF, DOCX, EPUB, TXT, MD, HTML.

Chat with PDF FAQ
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
- Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
- Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
