How Tone & Noise Generator works

Tones play live through the Web Audio API so you can drag the frequency while it plays. Downloads are rendered sample by sample in your browser into a 44.1 kHz 16-bit WAV, with short fades so there are no clicks.

Output: WAV.

How to use Tone & Noise Generator

1. Pick Tone, Sweep, Noise, Binaural or Phone keys.
2. Set the frequency and volume.
3. Press Play to listen.
4. Download a WAV of any length.

Tips

• Start at low volume, high tones can hurt speakers and ears.
• Use a log sweep from 20 Hz to 20 kHz to test speakers and headphones.

Are my files uploaded?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.

Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?

Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.

Does it work offline?

Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
