PDF to Speech

Read PDFs, Word files and e-books aloud with natural AI voices and save an audiobook file.

Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.

How PDF to Speech works

Text is pulled from the document on your device. The natural voices use Kokoro 82M (Apache-2.0) through kokoro-js in a background thread (about 90 MB, downloaded once). System voices use your browser speech engine for listening only.

Input: PDF, DOCX, EPUB, TXT, MD, HTML, RTF, ODT. Output: WAV, MP3.

How to use PDF to Speech

  1. Drop a document or paste text.
  2. Pick a voice and speed.
  3. Create the audio and download it.

Tips

  • WAV is lossless but large; MP3/AAC/OGG are compact for sharing.
  • Engines load on first use and are cached afterwards.

PDF to Speech FAQ

Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
