Location History Converter
Turn Google Timeline or Takeout location history into GPX, KML, GeoJSON or CSV, with distances by month and your most visited places.
Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.
How Location History Converter works
Your export is read inside this tab. Nothing is uploaded, no account or login is needed, and closing the tab clears it. The new on-device Timeline export (semanticSegments, rawSignals), the iPhone export, Takeout Records.json and the monthly Semantic Location History files are all read. Visits become waypoints and movement becomes one GPX track per day. The dot view is drawn from your points only, with no map tiles fetched.
Input: ZIP, JSON. Output: GPX, KML, GEOJSON, CSV.
How to use Location History Converter
- Export Timeline from your phone, or get Location History from Takeout.
- Drop the JSON files or the ZIP.
- Pick a date range and what to include.
- Download GPX, KML, GeoJSON or CSV.
Tips
- Exports hold your private messages, places and habits. Here they are read inside the tab and never uploaded.
- Most services take from a few minutes to a few days to prepare an export, so ask early.
- Keep the original ZIP. These tools never change it.
Location History Converter FAQ
- Where is my Timeline now?
- Google moved Timeline to your phone in 2024. On Android open Settings, Location, Location services, Timeline, Export Timeline data. On iPhone use the Google Maps app settings. Older Takeout files still work too.
- Can I hide my home?
- Use GPX Privacy Zone on the GPX you download here. It removes the points near places you pick.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
- Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
- Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
