Word to Markdown

Convert DOCX to clean Markdown with headings, lists, links and tables.

Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.

How Word to Markdown works

mammoth (BSD-2) maps Word styles to semantic HTML, then turndown (MIT) writes GitHub-flavored Markdown, including tables.

Input: DOCX, ODT, RTF, HTML. Output: MD, HTML, TXT.

How to use Word to Markdown

  1. Open Word to Markdown and add your source file (or paste content where offered).
  2. Adjust page size, quality or layout options in the side panel.
  3. Check the live preview.
  4. Convert and download the result.

Tips

  • Conversions run entirely in your tab, so very large files depend on your device’s memory.
  • For best fidelity, start from the original digital file rather than a scan.

Word to Markdown FAQ

Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
