Bates Numbering
Stamp unique Bates numbers like ABC000001 on every page, continuing across many PDFs.
Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.
How Bates Numbering works
Each page gets a label made of your prefix, a zero padded number and a suffix, drawn with pdf-lib in the corner you pick. The count continues from one file to the next in the order you set, and a log lists the first and last number of each file.
Input: PDF. Output: PDF, ZIP, CSV.
How to use Bates Numbering
- Drop one or more PDFs and put them in order.
- Set prefix, start number and digits.
- Pick the position and style, check the preview.
- Download the numbered files and the log.
Tips
- Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF.
- Large scanned PDFs are mostly images. Compress PDF shrinks them the most.
- Your original file is never modified; you always download a new copy.
Bates Numbering FAQ
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
- Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
- Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
